Dr. Shirley Taylor

Dr. Shirley Taylor is a clinical associate at Nicholas & Noble Psychological Associates, and a seasoned licensed psychologist who has worked with mental health issues for over three decades.  

Dr. Taylor helps clients understand how self-defeating patterns, past distressing experiences, and current stressors are impacting their well-being.  Her welcoming, affirmative, and exploratory style helps her quickly develop connections with clients, allowing them to examine and face complex problems with strength and resolve. In a supportive space, clients draw from their strengths and are empowered to learn strategies and solutions to overcome their symptoms and stressors. 

Dr. Taylor’ expertise lie in integrating Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Relational Psychodynamic theory (insight-oriented), and trauma therapy.  She has a particular affinity toward working with adults, adolescents and their families.  Dr. Taylor will step into your world and help you explore your maladaptive thoughts, beliefs, and negative emotions that keep you stuck.  She will teach you to build coping skills and self-worth necessary to navigate complex relationships, stress/pressure, and self-defeating habits/behaviors resulting in long-lasting change. 

Experience

Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Taylor has served in various clinical and leadership roles including Assistant Director of Clinical Services at St Louis County Family Court, Executive Director of United Behavioral Health in St. Louis, Lead Psychologist at Deaconess Hospital in St. Louis, and Counseling Psychologist at Mosaic HealthCare, a group practice in St. Joseph, MO.  After providing psychotherapy to adults, adolescents and their families the past 15 years in Missouri, she relocated to Wheaton, IL to be closer with her own family and has joined the Nicholas and Noble team.  

Education

Dr. Taylor obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, Philosophy, and Religion from the Doane University in Nebraska.  She holds a Master’s and Doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology from University of Missouri - St. Louis.  Clinical areas of research have included sexual abuse, sleep disorders, biological aspects of psychological problems and bariatric surgery.
