Starting a family can seem like the most natural thing in the world, until it doesn’t work the way you expect.  You may struggle to get pregnant, experience pregnancy loss, or perhaps your family structure requires intervention to achieve your goals (for example, LGBT individuals or single parents).  Traversing through the complex world of infertility can be daunting.  Although reproductive technology has expanded the options to grow families, it can be expensive, nebulous, and overwhelming.

Women struggling to get pregnant ride an emotional rollercoaster.  At the peaks, you are filled with hope and possibility, only to come crashing down into devastation and hopelessness.  You may feel alone.  Those around you are well-intentioned, but often say unhelpful things that leave you feeling misunderstood.  You may be surprised by the rage you feel inside when you see a pregnant person.  As the months tick past, you may find it almost impossible to deal with the weight of the wait.

There is hope.  Our psychologists can help you navigate through the trauma of infertility, and find a path forward.  We create a safe space to process the myriad of emotions triggered by infertility.  Interventions are designed to help clients identify healthy outlets and coping strategies to communicate and manage their feelings effectively.  Clients will have a neutral space to examine the different choices in family-building, and sort through their thoughts and feelings about each decision.  During fertility cycles, our psychologists help clients identify individualized strategies to help them cope including self-care plans, boundary-setting, and distraction activities.  For couples, we can help you communicate your pain and your wishes directly so you can better understand each other, and be united on your journey forward.

Infertility is temporary.  It may take a long time to resolve, but it is not permanent.  In the meantime, we are here to help you get through it.
